How to play Who put this ?

Updated on October 24, 2026

One sentence: everyone adds songs in secret, they play shuffled, and you guess who picked each track. Here's the full picture, from the invite link to the final ranking.

What you need

  • At least 3 players, ideally 4 to 12.
  • One phone or computer per player – everyone votes from their own screen.
  • An internet connection. No app, no account: it all runs in the browser.

1. The host creates a room

The host picks one of two modes on the home page:

  • Online room, everyone on their own screen: the song starts at the same time on every player's phone. The easiest mode, and the one to use when you play remotely.
  • Presenter mode: the music only plays on the host's screen (a TV, a speaker, a stream). Everyone else votes from their phone without seeing the video.

Then the host sets a theme (optional, but it makes everything better – see our theme ideas), the number of songs per player (3 to 5 is a good start; count roughly 3 minutes per song), audio only or with video, and whether the room is private or public.

2. Everyone joins and adds songs

Share the invite link (WhatsApp, Discord, text…) or the 5-letter code. Each player enters a first name and pastes YouTube links, one per box – a thumbnail confirms it's the right track. Tip: paste a whole list of links into the first box and they spread across the others automatically.

3. Listen, vote, reveal

Once at least 3 players are in, the host starts the game. Songs from everyone play in random order. For each one, every player votes for the friend they think picked it (you can't vote for yourself). The answer is revealed as soon as everyone has voted, or when the song ends, with a breakdown of who voted for whom and the live standings.

4. Scoring

SituationPoints
You guessed who picked the song+4
You were the first to get it right+1 (speed bonus)
Your song, and nobody guessed it was you+6 (max bonus)
Your song, and some players guessed itPartial bonus, +1 to +5
Your song, and everybody guessed it0

The less predictable your picks, the more you score – so picking a song that screams “you” isn't always the best move.

5. End of game and awards

After the last round, everyone sees the final ranking plus three awards: the detective (most correct guesses), the most mysterious (least often found out) and the open book (easiest to read). Share the results with one tap, replay with the same songs in a new order, or start over.

Troubleshooting

A player can't join

Check the code and make sure the host hasn't closed their tab. Devices connect directly to each other; on very locked-down office or school Wi-Fi this can be blocked – switching to mobile data almost always fixes it.

A video won't play

Deleted, private or embed-blocked videos are detected and skipped automatically. Official music videos and YouTube “Topic” uploads are the safest picks.

No sound on iPhone

Check the silent switch on the side of the phone, then tap the screen once – Safari sometimes blocks audio until you interact with the page.
